Coast & Castles Challenge Ride 25 to 27 September 2009
The 200 mile Coast & Castles South cycle route (National Route 1) links the Forth and Tyne estuaries, taking in some of Britain's best built and natural heritage, including Hadrian's Wall World Heritage site, unspoiled coastline and the beautiful Tweed Valley before arriving in Edinburgh.
Sustrans, in conjunction with Riot Events, has organised a three day sponsored ride from Gateshead to Edinburgh which takes in part of the Coast & Castles South to Berwick-upon-Tweed before breaking off onto National Route 76 which follows the coastline. It is a unique opportunity for participants to challenge themselves, whilst raising money for the charity behind the National Cycle Network.
Highlights of the trip include:
* Start from Baltic Wharf in Gateshead, across the iconic Gateshead Millennium bridge into Newcastle

* Lunch stop on day two overlooking Lindisfarne
* Traffic-free home run around Arthur's Seat to the finish line in Edinburgh
Prices start from just £120, which includes:
* Two nights camping accommodation (optional extra for hotel & chalet accommodation available at extra cost)
* Luggage transfer during the ride
